Fade

Originally written and posted to Facebook 14/February/2020, republished here as Facebook is about to remover the Notes feature. I guess with progress there are always casualties...

Littered across the floor

An endless tangle of lies

Dreams and hopes and memories

Screaming out as they die

Crumbling all around them

All in silent slumber be

The echoes of the children’s laughter

Drowning in misery

Sons and daughters weeping

Crying out in pain

Still their secrets keeping

While they slowly fade away

Help, it was not coming

A complex web of lies

Kept the monsters feeding

Muffling their cries

Pawns in a cruel game of irony

Crippled, battered, torn

The only path they could see

Is one they forged alone

Sons and daughters weeping

Crying out in pain

Still their secrets keeping

While they slowly fade away

A light at the end

It’s time to begin

A new day is dawning

With each breath you’re drawing

You’re healing inside…

Now spread…

your wings…

and fly….

Sons and daughters weeping

Crying out in pain

Still their secrets keeping

While they slowly fade away

Don’t fade away…
